Project overview
Circular BioEconomy Market Uptake and Policy Support in Central Europe
The bioeconomy concept seeks to replace fossil resources with renewable raw materials in as many areas and applications as possible. The BIOECO-UP project widely establishes this concept across central Europe. The partners will design new circular value chains for the bioeconomy and change consumer behaviour. They will also support the policy level to push ahead with the transformation.

Roadmap
Challenge
During the last decade it became clear for policy makers that circular economy concept is necessary but not sufficient to cope with challenges of our time like demographic explosion, biodiversity loss, degradation of natural environment and climate change. If we are going to put our economy on sustainable path the quantity of fossil row materials should be decreased in industry and energy sector and we should replace them by renewable ones (e.g. biomass) The biomass-based economy (bioeconomy) model can be an effective tool to reach climate targets in case we develop bio-based value chains on both national and transnational level, increase consumer awareness and support policy recognition of the role of biomass in transition. The BIOECO-UP project contributes the achievement of all three goals.
Empowering citizens to become active in circular bioeconomy
We ellaborate 17 bioeconomy related infosheets covering wide range of topics which can function as a written educational material, as well. Workshops will be offered to citizens where they will get ideas how to become active producers and consumers of bioeconomy products. Team members and quadruple helix actors may get familiar with living lab approach as an open innovation ecosystem including key elements and principles for testing different kind of bioeconomy products in each country. Join us and let’s build together a sustainable future!
Create circular bioeconomy corss-sectoral value chain
After identifying the bioeconomy potential in BIOECO-UP countries, procedures for transnational bioeconomy cross-sector cooperation will be developed and tested on 7 transnational pilot cases (HU, SI, SK, CZ, IT, CRO, PL). We will improve market uptake of bio-based solutions and integration into mainstream supply value chains. To achieve this goal, we map interested businesses and create opportunities for new international collaborations.
Mainstreaming of circular bioeconomy policies
Policy making is an important factor of building sustainable future. BIOEAST Initiative undertook to be an accelerator of policy changes in the Central and Eastern European region. The mission of BIOECO-UP team members is to support the initiative with transnationally verified measures for bioeconomy development that could be used in the framework of Common Agricultural Policy, as well. If you are a policy maker and you are devoted to create a livable future, please do not hesitate, join us today!
