The publicly available online tool evaluates whether abandoned oil and gas wells are suitable for geothermal reuse. It combines geological, technical, and economic criteria to identify promising wells, helping users make informed investment and planning decisions while reducing exploration risk and project costs. The database currently contains information on more than 9,000 wells across five Central European countries. |

The studies carried out for eight pilot sites serve as practical examples that can be replicated elsewhere. |

The Strategy provides recommendations, priorities, and concrete actions needed to accelerate geothermal well reuse. It helps create favourable conditions for investment, supports coordinated decision-making, and facilitates wider deployment of geothermal projects across Central Europe and beyond. The TRANSGEO Action Plan establishes a coordinated roadmap for scaling up geothermal well reuse through targeted policy recommendations, stakeholder collaboration, and measures that facilitate investment, implementation, and market uptake across Europe. |
