The Interreg CE financed project BIOECO-UP project is dedicated to designing sustainable bioeconomy value chains, promoting changes in consumer behavior, and supporting policy innovation. The initiative brings together various stakeholders from Eastern Europe, Italy, and Austria to build interregional cooperations in order to exploit bioeconomy business opportunities in the regions.

As part of the project’s activities, the University of Bologna was particularly pleased to host project partners, citizens, and stakeholders for a series of events showcasing concrete examples of bioeconomy applications. The meetings, held from November 3rd to 5th, featured a rich program ranging from conferences at DAMSLab in Bologna—where various bioeconomy case studies were presented—to guided visits to industrial plants in the provinces of Faenza and Ravenna. The visit concluded in Rimini at Ecomondo, the international trade fair dedicated to ecological transition.

During the industrial visits, participants were introduced to significant examples of circular bioeconomy: the valorization of wine-making waste at Caviro Extra in Faenza, and the production of Spirulina microalgae at Micoperi Blue Growth in Ravenna. The program also included a brief walk through the historic center of Ravenna and a tasting of local products.

First impressions and testimonies from participants can be viewed on the project’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@BIOECO-UP.
