New bicycle racks at schools and kindergartens
To encourage daily cycling and support a modal shift away from car trips for school runs, Olomouc focused on expanding secure bicycle parking facilities. New, high-quality bike racks were installed at selected primary schools and kindergartens across the city.
The initiative aimed to address the growing demand for safe bicycle storage among pupils, students, and parents, establishing healthier mobility habits early on. Based on the positive feedback and identified local needs, the city also planned the gradual addition of further bike stands in surrounding public spaces and key community destinations.
Map-based application for public engagement
To gather citizen feedback and improve data-driven urban planning, Olomouc launched a participatory citizen project utilizing an interactive map-based web application.
Through this digital tool, residents were invited to directly point out critical locations, highlight parking bottlenecks, report problematic cycling spots, and submit suggestions for improvement across the city’s neighborhoods. The collected spatial data provided valuable insights into public needs and served as an important foundation for the city administration to prioritize future mobility interventions and refine local parking management strategies.
