NiCE Project at Re-source 2025 Conference in Frankfurt

From May 15–16, 2025, the Re-source 2025 conference brought together 180 experts in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, to share insights and practical approaches on resource conservation and the circular economy. Organized by the German Environment Agency (UBA) and the Federal Ministry for the Environment in collaboration with Austrian and Swiss counterparts, the event focused on important topics including battery and plastic recycling, circular construction, textiles, and sustainable consumption.

The NiCE project was represented by UBA and Stadtlabor in the conference’s fifth topic—practical examples for promoting sustainable lifestyles and consumption patterns. Beyond the input presentation, NiCE’s virtual exhibition has been featured on the conference website, alongside a project poster showcased on the official poster platform.

Of particular relevance to NiCE were discussions in the circular construction session, where speakers presented initiatives that overlap with the thematic field of NiCE—such as building dismantling and reuse platforms (Materialnomaden), circular construction practices (Concular), and modular wooden building systems (Triqbriq). These approaches underline the potential for innovative reuse strategies within urban environments, resonating with NiCE’s focus on sustainable consumption in city centers.

Moreover, the dialogue around communication strategies and psychological factors, as explored by Prof. Dr. Brudermann and Prof. Dr. Imke Hoppe, provided valuable insights for NiCE’s ongoing work in promoting sustainable behavior.

In addition, two side events have been conducted: A day before the conference, on May 14, 2025, participants gained insights into the REJU Project by Taclov GmbH in Fechenheim. A modern processing facility is being developed here with the goal of establishing a circular textile-to-textile value chain focused on polyester. Following the conference programme on Friday, participants visited the Arcus Greencycling GmbH facility in the Höchst Industrial Park. The company offers a chemical recycling solution for currently non-recyclable mixed plastic waste streams.
