How can cities make their centres more vibrant while supporting more sustainable ways of living?

The NiCE project has published its new Policy Paper: Revitalising City Centres by Promoting Circular Lifestyles. The publication presents practical recommendations for local and regional authorities, NGOs and other organisations working on sustainable urban development.

The recommendations are based on the experience gained during the NiCE pilot activities in eight Central European cities, combined with research findings and discussions with experts and stakeholders throughout the project.

The paper shows that circular lifestyles can help cities revitalise their centres by creating attractive places for repair, reuse, sharing and community activities. At the same time, it highlights that successful circular initiatives need long-term support, cooperation between different stakeholders and integration into urban policies.

The publication focuses on four key areas:

  • addressing economic barriers,
  • strengthening governance, capacity and infrastructure,
  • increasing awareness and encouraging behavioural change,
  • supporting systemic transformation.

Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, the policy paper provides practical recommendations that cities can adapt to their own local context and needs.
