Hungary Strengthens Its Circular Approach to Plastic Waste

The Bay Zoltán Research Institute develops new recyclable materials and advanced recycling technologies, while Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) contributes to international projects focused on greener plastic management.

 

Key National Initiatives

 

The National Waste Management Plan 2021–2027 aims to improve collection systems, strengthen producer responsibility and boost reuse and recycling across the country.

 

Hungary also participates in the EU project Plastics Circularity Multiplier, which connects and accelerates innovations in plastic recycling and circular solutions.

 

Community and NGO Action

 

The popular PET Cup organizes river cleanups on the Tisza, collecting thousands of PET bottles each year.

Organizations like Humusz Szövetség, Greenpeace Hungary, and the Blue Planet Foundation raise awareness, promote waste reduction and support sustainable innovations.
