How can cities move from circular economy strategies to real-life implementation?

How can reuse be supported, stakeholders engaged, and data used more effectively?

These questions were at the core of the Czech trickle-down webinar “How to implement a circular city in practice: experiences, data and tools”, held 16th April 2026. The event brought together participants from across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, including municipalities, public authorities, NGOs and circular economy practitioners.

The event presented key results of the NiCE project, with a strong focus on pilot actions implemented in eight European cities. These pilots tested practical solutions such as reuse centres, revitalisation of urban spaces, digital tools and community engagement approaches.

A special focus was placed on the Czech pilot in Jihlava, where a reuse centre successfully combined community activities with digital innovation. The Reuse Recognizer tool, based on AI image recognition, demonstrated how data collection can be simplified while improving accuracy and enabling better planning and reporting.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of linking local practice with policy frameworks. Topics included data standardisation, extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes and innovative financing mechanisms such as municipal environmental funds.

The strong interest in the webinar confirmed that circular economy and reuse are gaining momentum. The NiCE project offers not only inspiration, but also practical tools that can support cities and stakeholders on their transition towards more circular and sustainable urban systems.
