From Seed to Territory: Central-BIC and COrALp Join Forces for Biodiversity Conservation

21 November 2026 | 2:30–4:30 PM | Cascina Falchera, Turin

What can each of us do to help protect biodiversity? And why is preserving and sharing seeds so important for the future of our territories?

These are some of the questions at the heart of “From Seed to Territory: Preserving and Cultivating Biodiversity”, a public event taking place on Saturday, 21 November, from 2:30 to 4:30 PM at Cascina Falchera in Turin.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is organised by LAMORO Development Agency and ORME ETS – Orti Metropolitani, as part of the European projects Central-BIC, co-funded by the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme, and COrALp, co-funded by the Interreg Italy–France ALCOTRA Programme.

The initiative reflects the shared commitment of both projects to biodiversity conservation and community engagement. It aligns with Central-BIC’s objectives of promoting the sustainable management of ecosystem services, supporting sustainable rural development and actively involving local communities and stakeholders in biodiversity protection.

From Seeds to Communities: Sharing Experiences

Preserving a seed also means safeguarding knowledge, traditions and valuable resources for local territories. But what does this commitment look like in practice? What role can citizens, researchers, associations and local authorities play in protecting biodiversity?

The event will offer an opportunity to explore these questions through the exchange of experiences and perspectives, all united by a shared commitment to conserving and enhancing plant biodiversity.

From the experience of the Seed House – Mulino dei Semi in the Bormida Valley to research and conservation activities focusing on wild Alpine plants within the COrALp project, and the contribution of urban gardens to raising awareness and engaging local communities, the discussion will highlight how biodiversity conservation can begin with local territories and the people who live in them.

Participants will include Luigi Gallareto, Mayor of Monastero Bormida, Gaia Lando from Mulino dei Semi, Tiziana Ulian, Marco Mucciarelli, Paola Gullino and Fabiana Marino of the University of Turin, involved in the COrALp project, Vittorio Bianco of ORME ETS and Sonia Abluton from LAMORO.

The aim is not simply to present the activities of the two European projects, but to create a space for dialogue and exchange, bringing together local experiences, scientific research and community participation.

More Than Words: A Seed Exchange Open to Everyone

At the end of the event, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a seed exchange and share their gardening and cultivation experiences, turning discussion into a practical opportunity for participation.

This activity is open to urban gardeners, gardening enthusiasts, associations and anyone interested in learning more about seeds and biodiversity.

If you have seeds to share, bring them along!

Protecting biodiversity is not only about conserving plant species. It also means keeping knowledge alive, encouraging exchange and creating new opportunities for collaboration between people.
