The initiative aimed to provide residents of the urban environment with the opportunity to embrace a nature-oriented lifestyle, cultivate their own produce, and connect with a supportive community.
By establishing allotment plots ranging from 30 to 60 square metres, the local authority sought to ensure that every interested party could find the most suitable option. Individual tenants, families, and groups of friends alike were given the chance to cultivate their own section of the garden. To the organisers’ great satisfaction, interest exceeded expectations, and as a result, all plots were quickly taken.
In the future, operational and maintenance responsibilities will be assumed by an association founded by the plot holders, following a model that has already proven successful in the management of community gardens.
The official opening will take place on 19 September, as part of the Óbuda Green Days.
