LIFE CEPLAFIB: Giving Plastic and Paper Waste a Second Life
CEPLAFIB combines post-consumer plastic waste with recycled newsprint fibres to create strong, lightweight composite materials. These new materials can be used in construction, packaging, automotive parts and caravanning — proving that high-value products can be made from waste.
LIFE BioTHOP: Sustainable Hop Farming With Bioplastics
BioTHOP replaces traditional polypropylene twine in hop fields with biodegradable PLA bioplastic. After harvest, the twine and hop waste can be composted or recycled into new horticultural and packaging products. The project creates a fully circular loop for agricultural waste.
INCIRCULAR: High-Quality Plastics From 100% Recycled Material
INCIRCULAR develops and scales a process that turns recycled plastics into new, fully recyclable bioplastics with performance equal to conventional materials. With support from partners in Slovenia, Spain and France, the project integrates digital twinning and on-site recycling at the Gorenje industrial site.
AMT2P: Training Workers for the Future of Manufacturing
The transition to sustainable plastics requires new skills. AMT2P develops training tools, digital materials and workshops to help companies and employees master advanced manufacturing techniques and the “green skills” needed for modern production.
LFIA-REC: Recovering Gold and Plastics From Rapid COVID-19 Tests
Rapid antigen tests contain valuable materials, including nanogold and high-quality plastics. LFIA-REC is developing a process to dismantle and recycle these tests, reducing incineration, lowering emissions and showing how even complex medical waste can enter circular use.
I3-DEREMCO: Circular Solutions for Composite Materials
Composite plastics are difficult to recycle, but DEREMCO is creating new mechanical and thermo-chemical methods to reuse them in high-value products. The project builds a cross-sector circular supply chain that supports industry, consumers and the environment.
RISE I3: Supporting Innovation in Less Developed Regions
RISE strengthens innovation capacity in Bulgaria, Slovenia and Portugal by connecting SMEs with partners, supporting new project ideas and helping regions access investments for circular and sustainable technologies.
Together, these projects prove that circular plastics are not just a vision — they are becoming reality across Europe.
