Strengthening Civil Society Cooperation in the Carpathians

Date: 01.07.2025

Civil society organisations play an essential role in the sustainable development of mountain regions. Throughout the CENTRAL MOUNTAINS project, partners worked to strengthen cooperation among NGOs, local communities and other stakeholders across the Carpathians, creating opportunities for long-term networking and knowledge exchange.

One of the key outcomes of these activities is the Carpathian Civil Society Platform – an initiative designed to support cooperation between organisations working in the Carpathian region. The Platform provides a space for sharing experience, promoting joint initiatives and fostering dialogue between civil society, public authorities and other stakeholders.

To facilitate this cooperation, the project also developed an online Carpathian Civil Society Hub, offering organisations a common space to connect, exchange information and showcase their activities. The Hub aims to remain an open resource beyond the lifetime of the project, helping organisations build partnerships and develop new cross-border initiatives.

The Platform and the Hub contribute to the long-term legacy of CENTRAL MOUNTAINS by strengthening stakeholder engagement and supporting participatory governance in the Carpathians. They complement the project’s strategic outputs by providing practical tools for cooperation that can continue to benefit mountain communities in the years ahead.
