On 11 June 2025, the Department of Forage Crops Breeding and Genetics at the Agricultural Institute Osijek hosted the Carbon for the Future roundtable at the Croatian Chamber of Economy – Osijek County Chamber.
The discussion focused on carbon farming and the potential of a government-led business model in Croatia. Participants identified existing opportunities within research, agricultural practice and public institutions, while highlighting the need for stronger cooperation, knowledge transfer and effective monitoring of carbon farming results.
The discussion also addressed the role of eco-schemes in supporting the longer-term transition towards sustainable and climate-responsible agriculture. Participants highlighted that, although eco-schemes are designed as one-year interventions, they can contribute to longer-term change when strategically targeted, easier to implement and accessible to farmers.
The insights gathered through the roundtable contributed to Carbon Farming CE’s work on developing and testing carbon farming business models adapted to different national and regional contexts.
