The European Union has strengthened its framework for carbon farming with the adoption of the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation, establishing an EU-wide voluntary certification framework for permanent carbon removals, carbon farming and carbon storage in products.
Carbon Farming CE contributed to these broader European efforts by developing and testing practical approaches to carbon farming across nine central European countries. The project:
- tested carbon farming techniques under different agricultural, climatic and soil conditions;
- developed practical guidance for farmers and agricultural advisors;
- developed and tested carbon farming business models;
- developed a common methodology for monitoring carbon sequestration; and
- prepared a Strategy and Action Plan to support the wider uptake of carbon farming in central Europe.
Carbon Farming CE is also included in the EU Mission Soil Platform’s project hub, where its contribution to increasing soil organic carbon stocks, building knowledge and supporting the uptake of carbon farming is presented alongside other European soil initiatives.
The project’s results therefore provide practical knowledge and tools that remain relevant as the European framework for carbon farming continues to develop.
