The VSB – Technical University of Ostrava campus came alive with the traditional Art & Science festival that took place in September. The 11th edition of the event was held under the motto: Science is art. And art can sometimes be quite a science.
The event, intended for the general public, teachers, as well as primary and secondary school students, showed visitors that university life is not only about studying, but also about creativity, music and new experiences.
The festival presented not only the study programmes offered by all faculties, but also research centres and their projects. The Bulk Solid Research Group from ENET, CEET attracted visitors with the foodCIRCUS project, which focuses on the use of torrefied pellets produced from food waste from school canteens as a source of nutrients for plants in hydroponic cultivation. The presentation also included a demonstration of a specially developed hydroponic system designed for school experiments investigating the potential of these pellets for plant nutrition.
The programme also featured an exhibition by Klára Sedlo, while in the afternoon the campus came alive with music performed by the VSB – TUO Orchestra and the bands Getaway and The Backwards.
Art & Science once again showed that science can be not only fascinating and inspiring, but also fun and accessible to all generations.
