Project partners gathered in Klagenfurt on 19–20 May 2026 for a coordination meeting focused on the progress of work packages, deliverables, and upcoming project activities.
The first day opened with discussions and finalisation of key deliverables from Period 4, including fuel type mapping, fire behaviour modelling, fuel moisture validation, and the mapping of risk areas in pilot regions. Partners also reviewed pilot site testing activities and discussed upcoming deliverables for Period 5 within WP1, WP2, and WP3. In the afternoon, participants attended a demonstration of fire simulation tables as well as a presentation of the Carinthian State Fire Academy’s training area. This was followed by WP management discussions and a Steering Group meeting. The day concluded with a joint dinner, providing an opportunity for networking and informal exchange among partners.
On the second day, discussions focused on communication activities, future planning, and open issues related to training and validation events, as well as reports on risk area mapping. After lunch, participants joined a field trip to the Feistritz fire station to explore practical aspects connected to the project activities. This was followed by a visit to Klagenfurt Airport, where the Austrian Aviation Police demonstrated their activities, operational procedures, and specialised equipment, offering valuable insights into aerial support and emergency response operations. The meeting concluded with a joint dinner.
The meeting once again highlighted the strong cooperation among project partners and their shared commitment to advancing innovative approaches in wildfire risk management, prevention, and response.
