In Osijek, Croatia, the OPTI-UP project is advancing sustainable urban mobility through a new pilot bus line designed to make the city’s public transport system more efficient, accessible, and user-friendly.

The pilot service, launched in early September, connects Opus Arena and Đakovština, linking the densely populated district of Retfala with the Jablan industrial zone. This new route fills a major connectivity gap and supports Osijek’s broader vision of a cleaner, smarter, and more integrated transport network.

To evaluate progress and exchange insights, representatives from EY and GPP Osijek organized a site visit. The visit included a presentation of the Local Plan for the City of Osijek, discussions with transport operators, and a ride along the pilot line.

During the visit, participants observed how the new line operates in real conditions and gathered valuable feedback from drivers and passengers. The discussions also focused on potential improvements—such as adding new stops near key destinations and enhancing route visibility—to make the service even more convenient and attractive to users.

The Osijek pilot builds on the city’s local transport plan, which aims to:

  • Simplify the existing network and make routes easier to understand.

  • Improve transfers and connectivity between lines.

  • Increase efficiency and optimize resources across the system.

The site visit confirmed strong local engagement and collaboration between project partners, marking an important step toward more sustainable and inclusive urban mobility in Osijek.
