NXTLVL Parking at Rostock’s Climate Action Day (Klima-Aktionstag): Rethinking Space and Parking
On September 27th, the city of Rostock celebrated its annual Climate Action Day under the motto “Frischer Wind – fairer Wandel” (“Fresh Wind – Fair Change”). The event brought together local initiatives, companies, and citizens to explore ideas for a more sustainable future.
The City Planning Office of the City of Rostock and the NXTLVL Parking project took part with a focus on one key topic: parking and space consumption. At the mobility department’s booth, visitors were invited to reflect on how much valuable urban space is used for parking — and what that means for sustainable city life.
To make this visible, a large floor banner illustrated the area of a single parking space: 12 square meters — roughly the size of a typical child’s bedroom. This visual helped many realize just how much space one car occupies in a city.
Visitors could also take part in a short quiz about parking in Rostock. The quiz sparked lively discussions and raised awareness in a fun and engaging way.
It was a positive and inspiring day with many great conversations, new insights, and shared enthusiasm for more sustainable mobility in Rostock.
