How can cities ensure safe and high-quality urban bathing waters while responding to rising temperatures and the growing demand for accessible spaces for swimming and cooling?

The UrbanBlueHealth – Joint Central European Actions for Improving Quality of Urban Bathing Waters (CE200763) project is bringing its transnational cooperation to a close with a Concluding Transnational Workshop. Hosted by the Medical University of Vienna – CePII, Institute for Hygiene and Applied Immunology, the workshop will take place on 16 September 2026 at Urania in Vienna.

The use of urban water bodies for swimming and cooling is becoming increasingly popular. At the same time, ensuring good water quality and protecting public health are becoming increasingly important challenges for cities and local authorities.

Throughout the project, partners from Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Austria have worked together to explore innovative approaches to urban bathing water management, including water quality monitoring and the potential use of early-warning systems.

The concluding workshop will bring together experts, project partners and stakeholders to present the key project results, exchange experiences and discuss future approaches to urban bathing water management.

The programme will include:

  • Expert insights into surface bathing water management
  • Presentation of key project results from all partner countries
  • Discussion and exchange of experiences
  • Networking and opportunities for future cooperation

The workshop will offer an opportunity to reflect on the results achieved by UrbanBlueHealth and explore how innovative monitoring and management approaches can support safer urban bathing waters, public health and more resilient and liveable cities.
