Location: Vienna, Austria
Date: 24.07.2025 - 24.08.2025

On July 24, 2025, a high-frequency monitoring instrument was installed to monitor the water quality of the Vienna Danube Canal. This was made through the collaboration of our UBH Team Austria with Vienna Monitoring Systems (Wolfgang Vogl), it is now possible to detect changes in water quality in near real time. To achieve this, it was necessary to find a suitable and protected installation site, which was made possible by the company Badeschiff (Andy Teltscher) and their willingness to support the project.

The Vienna Danube Canal is used by a Swimming Club (Schwimmverein Donaukanal) as an urban recreational water body since about two years. The Club is organizing an international swimming event the “Swimming Parade”, with expected 250 participants.

Especially for this event the surveillance of the water quality is essential to protect human health. The newly installed high-frequency monitoring instrument will be very useful in signalling possible contamination of the water in a timely manner.
