The ZEB4ZEN project and its digital planning tools were presented during a City Council session in Quedlinburg, highlighting how digital solutions can support the energy transition of historic city centres while respecting their cultural heritage.

The tool is designed to support local authorities in assessing and planning new energy infrastructure, including interventions in historically and culturally sensitive urban areas.

An important part of the presentation was also the Citizen Engagement Platform, which aims to integrate citizens’ perspectives and feedback into urban energy planning processes. The platform will also be developed for the other UNESCO cities participating in these activities: Palmanova in Italy, and Karlovac in Croatia.

By combining digital representations of historic urban areas with opportunities for citizen engagement, these tools can help make complex energy-planning information more accessible and support dialogue between local authorities, technical experts and citizens.

The presentation demonstrated how ZEB4ZEN is using digital tools not only to support technical planning and decision-making, but also to communicate future energy solutions and involve local communities in shaping the transition towards low-carbon historic city centres.
