We presented information on these risks and protective measures to coordinators of programmes for elderly people in pensioners’ associations. These coordinators are volunteers who visit elderly people living in isolation at home, who often lack sufficient information about protection options.
We also held workshops and training sessions for associations of disabled people, public educational institutions (kindergartens) and pregnant women, teaching them how to protect their health.
We published a brochure and leaflet containing information on health protection measures during heatwaves. The brochure includes a description of each vulnerable group and tips on how to protect oneself from heatstroke:
Staying Safe in the Heat – An Easy Read Guide for Everyone
Heatwaves can be dangerous, especially for people who are more vulnerable to heat. Through our recent workshops, including those with associations supporting disabled people, the City of Maribor learned that everyone needs clear, simple, and accessible information on how to stay safe during high temperatures.
These were distributed to pensioners’ associations, associations of people with disabilities, health centre clinics, kindergartens, hospitals, centres for elderly people living in isolation, care homes and other institutions frequented by vulnerable groups.
