The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is a cultural movement that aims to bring the Green Deal into our lives through a creative and interdisciplinary approach. The NEB is based on three pillars—aesthetics, sustainability, and inclusion—which the ZEB4ZEN project embraces. Through its activities, ZEB4ZEN puts NEB principles into practice by supporting the development of future living spaces in historic towns.

On the theme of “Resources for all”, the 2024 edition of the Festival of the New European Bauhaus brought people together to debate how we can shape a sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful future. Satellite events were organised independently in Brussels and beyond, with their core activities aligned with the New European Bauhaus values.

APE FVG and Palmanova Municipality, project partners in ZEB4ZEN, joined the NEB Festival with a satellite event held in Palmanova on April 19, 2024. The conference, “Energy: shared, beautiful, sustainable”, highlighted how energy poverty can be addressed while ensuring equal access to clean energy and pursuing decarbonisation and sustainability goals, while at the same time preserving the cultural and historical heritage that makes European cities and towns unique.

The event also presented the planned development of a 40 kWp solar PV plant in Palmanova, designed to supply a renewable energy community involving approximately 30 inhabitants from the same neighbourhood. For this purpose, abandoned and unoccupied land outside the historic city walls was identified for the installation. The initiative aimed to provide a replicable model for advancing zero-emission standards in historic neighbourhoods.
