A particular focus was placed on the Heritage Energy Community in Labin, an initiative designed to enable residents of the historic Old Town, where heritage protection requirements limit the installation of rooftop solar panels, to participate in the energy transition. The pilot also includes the development of a solar-powered carport with electric vehicle charging infrastructure and battery storage, combining renewable energy generation with sustainable mobility.
An important milestone had already been achieved in June 2026, when IRENA organised a Local Info Day during a session of the Labin City Council. Following the presentation of the initiative and its expected benefits, the City Council unanimously approved the City of Labin’s participation in establishing the renewable energy community, demonstrating strong local commitment to the project.
Through these activities, IRENA continues to connect local decision-makers, stakeholders and communities while sharing valuable experiences that can inspire similar initiatives across Central Europe.
From local political support to practical renewable energy solutions, HERCULES-CE is helping turn community energy ambitions into action.
