One of the key lessons learned during the CIRCOTRONIC project was that companies rarely need more tools, but they need help identifying the right tool for the right challenge. To support SMEs in their circular transition, the CIRCOTRONIC partnership adopted a pragmatic approach. Instead of developing entirely new solutions wherever possible, the project combined existing state-of-the-art tools, tools adapted to the specific needs of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) sector, and new tools developed within the project. This enabled companies to benefit from proven methodologies while also addressing the specific challenges of circular manufacturing in Central Europe. To provide a transparent overview of this portfolio, the partnership has published the Inventory of Circular Economy Tools Developed and Upgraded within CIRCOTRONIC. The inventory presents 15 practical tools covering the three thematic areas addressed by the project:Circular Design, Materials & Recovery, Circular Business Models & Value Chains. Together, these tools support companies in areas such as ecodesign, sustainability strategy development, future scenario planning, life-cycle assessment, circular supply chains, value mapping and circular business model innovation. The publication also demonstrates how practical experience gained during the pilot actions helped refine several of the methodologies and create new workshop formats tailored to the needs of SMEs.
Together with the Guide on Circular Transformation of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and the Solution Book, the inventory forms part of the lasting knowledge legacy of the CIRCOTRONIC project, helping companies, advisers and business support organisations select and apply the most appropriate circular economy solutions for their own transition.
