On 29 April 2026, the Zero Waste Multicentre in Brzeg Dolny hosted the local closing conference summarising the implementation of the NiCE – From Niche to Centre project, combined with an Open Day for residents. The event brought together numerous guests, project partners, local stakeholders, and community members interested in circular economy initiatives and sustainable lifestyles. The conference was officially opened by the Mayor of Brzeg Dolny, Ireneusz Fura, who has supported the development of the Multicentre and the NiCE project from the very beginning.
During the conference, participants were presented with the key achievements of the project, including the results of the local pilot and the solutions developed for the community. One of the highlights was the presentation of the plant-based cookbook “Roślinny Przepiśnik” (Plant-Based Recipe Book), accompanied by a tasting of dishes prepared from its recipes. Guests also had the opportunity to learn about the outcomes of the workshops delivered throughout the project and the Local Action Plan prepared for the future development of the Zero Waste Multicentre. The programme also included the screening of a short film presenting the NiCE project and a panel discussion focusing on the future of circular initiatives in Brzeg Dolny.
At the same time, the Open Day offered a wide range of free workshops and activities for local residents. Participants could join cooking workshops based on recipes from the Plant-Based Recipe Book, natural cosmetics workshops, sewing classes, and woodworking sessions. Young people from the Special Educational and Rehabilitation School Complex in Brzeg Dolny also took part in the event, preparing plant-based dishes together with Anna Matraj and creating natural handmade soaps during the workshops.
The event welcomed many distinguished guests, including the Deputy Governor of Lower Silesia, Piotr Kozdrowicki, representatives of the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, as well as representatives of local municipal institutions, schools, municipal companies, councillors, and non-governmental organisations that have cooperated with the Multicentre throughout the project.
The closing conference and Open Day were not only an opportunity to celebrate the successful completion of the NiCE project, but also to demonstrate that the Zero Waste Multicentre has become a permanent and valuable part of Brzeg Dolny’s community. Just a few months after the pilot phase ended, it is already clear that the Multicentre plays an important role in non-formal education, community engagement and the promotion of circular lifestyles. Today, it stands as one of the few facilities of its kind in the Lower Silesia region and will continue its activities beyond the lifetime of the NiCE project.
