Fire Paradox No. 2

Date: 25.05.2026

On Saturday, 23 May, the seminar “Fire Paradox No. 2” took place in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. The event represented the second edition in a series of lectures and discussions dedicated to European approaches and tactical solutions for addressing large-scale wildfires and is expected to become a regular platform for international cooperation and knowledge exchange in the field of wildfire management. The first edition was organised in autumn 2025 as part of the final event of the IN4SAFETY project under the Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme.

The continuation of this initiative reflects the growing importance of addressing the impacts of climate change. The “fire paradox” refers to the fact that, while wildfires were once more frequent but smaller in scale, today civil protection and firefighting services are increasingly confronted with fewer but significantly larger and more complex fires.

The seminar programme offered valuable insights into wildfire prevention and response strategies. Discussions addressed climate change and different guests from Italy and Slovenia shared practical experiences from their regions. One of the speakers was Jaša Saražin from the Slovenian Forestry Institute, a Slovenian project partner, who presented the topic “Biomass/Fuel Management and Spatial Planning (Prevention, Landscape Mosaic Approach)”.

This way, WILDFIRE CE continues to integrate into similar topics covering the problem of wildfires and to create synergies with other projects and programs.
