The WILDFIRE CE project was presented at the Bogataj Days of Protection and Rescue 2026, one of Slovenia’s most important events dedicated to civil protection, disaster management and rescue services. The event gathered experts, firefighters, civil protection authorities, public institutions and innovative projects focused on improving resilience to natural disasters and wildfires.
At the project stand, visitors were introduced to the innovative solutions being developed within WILDFIRE CE for early wildfire detection and environmental monitoring. The project focuses on the development of a pilot information system for permanent monitoring and algorithms for wildfire risk indication, aimed at improving prevention and rapid response capacities in fire-prone areas.
The presented concept includes the establishment of a network of 50 autonomous sensors on wildfire-risk slopes in the Municipality of Ajdovščina. The sensors will monitor particulate matter (PM) and volatile organic compounds (VOC), enabling the detection of potential wildfire processes even before visible flames appear. Data transmission will be integrated through LoRaWAN technology into the Municipality of Ajdovščina data environment.
The collected data will be connected to a new cloud-based platform currently being developed within the WILDFIRE CE project. The platform will support data processing, alarm generation and information sharing between civil protection authorities, firefighters and other stakeholders. In addition, a mobile application for field configuration and management of the equipment is being developed as part of the project.
Participation at the Bogataj Days provided an important opportunity to present the project’s innovative technological solutions and strengthen cooperation with civil protection stakeholders and the wider public.
