Lublin Awards Top Performers in Battery Collection under WEEE Collect Pilot Action

Date: 22.04.2026

As part of the Circular WEEEP project, the City of Lublin has successfully implemented the pilot action WEEE Collect, aimed at improving the collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and raising environmental awareness among young people. One of the key activities focused on battery collection campaigns carried out in local schools and kindergartens.

The Department of Environmental Protection of the Lublin City Office recognized the institutions that achieved the best results in 2025. The awards were granted to three educational facilities that collected the highest number of used batteries per student:

  • Kindergarten No. 35
  • Electronic Schools Complex
  • Primary School No. 42

The winning institutions were equipped with waste sorting stations, including dedicated containers for used batteries, as well as educational boards to support further environmental education initiatives.

The award ceremonies took place on April 22, 2026, in Kindergarten No. 35 and the Electronic Schools Complex, and on April 24, 2026, in Primary School No. 42. These events highlighted the strong engagement of students, teachers, and local communities in promoting responsible waste management practices.

The WEEE Collect pilot action demonstrates how targeted educational campaigns and practical tools can significantly improve collection rates of hazardous waste such as used batteries. It also reinforces the importance of involving younger generations in circular economy principles from an early age.
