On 5 May 2026, the city of Olomouc (Czech Republic) will host an Inspirational Workshop organised within the EnCLOD project – Enhancing Governance Capacities of Local Authorities Using Open Data, funded by the Interreg Central Europe Programme. The event will take place at Fort Science (17. Listopadu 939) and will bring together researchers, public authorities and experts working on innovative uses of open data for local governance.

The workshop will explore how open data can strengthen decision-making processes, improve territorial governance and support cities in addressing complex urban challenges. Through presentations, case studies and discussions, participants will exchange experiences and discover innovative tools developed within the project and beyond.

The event will open with welcome speeches from representatives of Palacký University Olomouc and the City of Olomouc, highlighting the importance of cooperation between academia and local authorities in advancing data-driven governance.

The first session will introduce the concept of the Olomouc digital twin, a digital representation of the city designed to support policy planning and data analysis. It will also explore microzoning approaches, which divide cities into smaller analytical zones to improve data collection and interpretation. Speakers will further present a comparison of open data maturity among the project’s pilot areas, offering insights into how cities across Central Europe are developing data infrastructures and digital tools to support public administration.

A key highlight of the programme will be the presentation of the 3rd Olomouc Hackathon results, showcasing innovative solutions developed using sensor data within the EnCLOD framework. The workshop will also address the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon, a growing environmental challenge for cities. Experts will discuss how open data and sensor networks can help monitor urban temperatures and support more informed planning.

Participants will also discover a digital tool powered by artificial intelligence, developed within the EnCLOD pilot activities in Olomouc, designed to support policymakers and city planners through accessible visualisations and insights on urban heat dynamics.

The workshop will also showcase open data initiatives from across the Czech Republic. Sessions will present the data portal of the Olomouc region, which connects local data catalogues with national platforms and provides access to various datasets, including those generated through EnCLOD sensors.

Further presentations will explore national open data provided by telecommunications companies, offering insights into mobility patterns, as well as the open data portals of the cities of Brno and Ostrava, highlighting how these platforms support urban planning and spatial analysis.

Beyond the technical sessions, the workshop will offer opportunities for networking and collaboration among project partners, experts and stakeholders. The programme will conclude with a guided excursion at Fort Science, encouraging informal exchanges on the future of data-driven governance.

The workshop will be followed by a Transnational Partner Meeting of the EnCLOD consortium, on 5 May afternoon, and additional activities on 6 May 2026, reserved to project partners, including a visit to the Faculty of Science and the Department of Geoinformatics at Palacký University.
