The European Commission is organising the conference “Safe and Sustainable by Design: Accelerating the Industrial Transition” on 19 March 2026 in Brussels and online.
The event will bring together policymakers, industry representatives, researchers and innovation actors to discuss the implementation of the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework and its role in accelerating the transition toward safer and more sustainable chemicals and materials.
During the conference, the European Commission will also kick-start the work on the EU Chemical Innovation and Substitution Hubs, an initiative under the Chemicals Industry Action Plan (CIAP). These hubs aim to support companies and research organisations in overcoming innovation barriers, accelerating the development of safer alternatives and advancing the substitution of targeted hazardous chemicals.
The conference will highlight how collaboration between industry, research and policymakers can support Europe’s transition toward a more sustainable chemicals ecosystem.
The event is open to participants both in person in Brussels and online.
