The ACCESSMILE project will conclude with its Final Conference, to be held in Trieste on 25 March 2026, hosted by the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, in cooperation with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region and the Interporto di Trieste, and under the auspices of the EUSAIR Strategy.
The event, titled
“Digitalising the Road Last Mile for Ports and Multimodal Freight Terminals. Data sharing and interoperability for efficient freight flows”,
will focus on one of the most pressing operational challenges for the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T): optimising the entry and exit of road vehicles at ports and multimodal freight terminals.
Across Europe, logistics nodes face growing traffic volumes, congestion at access points, fragmented data flows and limited interoperability between digital systems. These constraints reduce reliability, increase costs and affect corridor performance. ACCESSMILE has addressed these challenges by developing digital tools, enhancing data exchange and promoting coordinated governance approaches for last-mile logistics.
The Final Conference will present the project’s key results, pilot actions and lessons learned. At the same time, it will foster cross-fertilisation with complementary initiatives working on freight digitalisation, including:
· MERIDIAN (CEF Transport)
· MILEPORT and PRESPORT (Interreg Italy–Croatia)
· ELODIE (Italian Recovery and Resilience Plan)
A dedicated session will highlight the synergy among European programmes and national recovery funds, demonstrating how complementary instruments addressing similar challenges in different geographical areas can reinforce each other and accelerate digital transformation.
The programme will include keynote speeches on public investments driving digital transformation and operational best practices, including the Port of Hamburg’s experience in integrating real-time slot management, intelligent traffic control and interoperable data interfaces. The event will conclude with a round table discussion gathering port authorities, logistics operators and infrastructure managers to debate future perspectives for digital road freight transport.
The conference will be organised in a hybrid format, allowing participation both in person and online. The working languages will be Italian and English, with simultaneous interpretation provided.
