By: NiCE

On 26 November 2025, Creative Industry Košice (CIKE) hosted a transnational workshop titled Creative Collaboration for Sustainable Cities. The event brought together participants from cultural and creative sectors, NGOs, education and sustainability fields to explore how culture can support sustainable and circular development in cities.

The workshop was facilitated by Julie’s Bicycle Europe, an organisation that connects culture and environmental sustainability. They work with cultural institutions and the creative sector to reduce the environmental impact of events and cultural activities. Their expertise in sustainable event planning fits well with the project goals, as cultural activities are an important part of city centres and can help support sustainability and circular lifestyles.

Participants took part in interactive sessions focused on sustainability challenges, impact measurement, and collaboration between creative organisations and city policymakers. Key topics included sustainable production and main impact areas such as energy use, transport, materials and waste, water, biodiversity, and digital technologies.

The workshop was based on the NiCE Strategy Framework and Monitoring Tool, which helped participants understand how to plan, measure, and improve sustainability in their everyday work. Participants also created simple sustainability statements and action plans and shared experiences in a transnational group.

Overall, the workshop strengthened the ability of creative professionals to include sustainability in their practice and showed how cooperation between culture and cities can support more sustainable and circular urban development.
