Dialogue on Biodiversity: Central-BIC Brings the Ecological Transition to the Bormida Valley

 

A public meeting dedicated to the sustainable future of rural areas, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. The European project Central-BIC, co-financed by the Interreg Central Europe programme, lands in the Bormida Valley for a day of dialogue and exchange on how local communities can become key players in the ecological transition.

 

The event is taking place on 21 November 2025 at 9:15 a.m. in Piazza Castello, Monastero Bormida (AT), and is promoted by the LAMORO Development Agency. It is featuring the participation of institutional representatives, academic experts, and associations active in environmental protection, including Liguria RegionUniversity of Genoa, Quarantina ConsortiumVeGALARI – Italian Rural AssociationIl Mulino dei SemiMonte Frumentario – Terra di Resilienza, and other leading actors from the rural and agroecological world.

 

The discussion will focus on key topics such as:

  • The enhancement of local seeds and agricultural biodiversity;
  • Payments for ecosystem services as a tool for sustainability;
  • The role of community custodians and collective projects in promoting food sovereignty.

 

After a morning of talks and public discussion, the event is continuing with refreshments featuring Roccaverano DOP cheese offered by the Consorzio di Tutela del Roccaverano DOP, bread from the project “We Want the Bread of the Bormida Valley”, and focaccia and breadsticks from Gruppo Francone Ltd. The day is concluding with a guided tour of the Polleri Mill.
