The mountain daffodil (Narcissus poeticus) is a rare and protected flower that blooms from April to May, requiring years to develop and flourish. Sensitive to environmental changes and intensive farming, the mountain daffodil also faces pressure from increased visitor traffic.

The alpine meadows of the western Karavanke Mountains are one of the most vital ecological zones and a popular destination for nature lovers during the daffodil blooming period. To support its conservation and raise awareness, an innovative virtual experience has been created for this area. It is accessible via the web app www.narcise.si and on mobile phones via QR codes placed at four key meadow sites. The experience allows users to explore daffodil habitats, learn about biodiversity, and understand best practices for meadow care.

For a deeper, more immersive exploration, visitors can head to the Tourist Information Office in Jesenice to enjoy the virtual tour using VR glasses. This initiative provides a year-round glimpse into the daffodil’s natural beauty—fostering education, sustainable tourism, and the protection of Slovenia’s valuable alpine heritage.
