On 27 February 2025, RINOVA, in collaboration with the University of Bologna, hosted a carbon farming seminar at the experimental farm “Martorano 5” in Cesena, Italy. The event brought together farmers, agricultural advisors, researchers and policymakers to exchange knowledge on soil health, carbon sequestration and practical soil assessment.
Researchers from the University of Bologna presented bio-functional indicators for soil organic carbon accumulation and the Visual Soil Assessment (VSA) method, a practical approach for evaluating soil quality. Participants then applied this knowledge in the field through a live demonstration of the VSA method.
The seminar also presented experimental data and findings on carbon farming practices in Emilia-Romagna, with a focus on improving soil health and increasing carbon sequestration. Representatives of the Emilia-Romagna Region joined the discussion, enabling an exchange between agricultural practice, research and policy.
A concluding round table brought these perspectives together and addressed the practical implementation of carbon farming and the future of sustainable soil management in the region.
