Optimised and cost-efficient geothermal energy solutions in heating and cooling across borders

Geothermal resources extend across national borders, but neighbouring regions often assess them with different data, rules and planning procedures. This leads to duplicated work, slower permitting and missed opportunities to develop low-carbon heating and cooling solutions. OPTGEO-CE combines methods from earlier Interreg projects to help authorities, engineers and energy providers choose suitable deep or shallow geothermal options. Feasibility studies at six sites will test the approach, while a shared digital tool and action plan will support more coordinated investment and decision-making across borders.
