Over the past two and a half years, CICADA4CE has explored what it takes to make cities more resilient to climate change, working together with five Central European cities: Nichelino (Italy), Břeclav (Czech Republic), Dubnica nad Váhom (Slovakia), Kranj (Slovenia) and Sosnowiec (Poland).
The project has brought together research, local authorities and communities to address climate challenges through an Ecosystem- and Community-Based Adaptation (ECbA) approach. From understanding local climate risks to developing practical solutions, CICADA4CE has focused on connecting technical knowledge with local experience and citizens’ ideas.
Across the five Urban Living Labs, cities have tested and explored different approaches to climate adaptation, from nature-based solutions and climate-adapted public spaces to community engagement and participatory planning.
As the project approaches its conclusion, the focus is now shifting towards its results, lessons learned and long-term legacy:
- What solutions have emerged from the Urban Living Labs?
- What have cities and partners learned together?
- Which tools and approaches can be transferred to other cities?
- How can local experiences contribute to wider European climate adaptation efforts?
Over the coming weeks, CICADA4CE will share stories, results and lessons from the project journey, highlighting the people, places and ideas that have contributed to making climate adaptation more concrete, collaborative and locally relevant.
