The City of Karlovac is one of the project partners and one of three pilot areas, alongside Palmanova (Italy) and Zamość (Poland), historic cities recognizable for their star-shaped urban layout.
In Karlovac, pilot activities are being implemented through the investment “Green and Digital Transformation of the City District” (Investment 2.3), which establishes an integrated system of energy production and consumption at the level of a city block in the Zvijezda district. A photovoltaic power plant has been installed on the roof of the City Administration building (Ulica dr. Ivana Banjavčića 9), a bidirectional (V2G – Vehicle-to-Grid) charging station for electric vehicles has been deployed, and a BYD SEAL U Comfort electric vehicle with V2L functionality has been procured. All components are connected through an advanced energy management software system that integrates and displays electricity production from the solar power plant and electricity consumption for charging the electric vehicle.
Together, the photovoltaic power plant, the V2G charging station, the electric vehicle, and the energy management system form an integrated energy system that connects renewable electricity production, storage and flexibility through the electric vehicle, and smart energy consumption management at the building level.
This investment represents another step toward increasing the use of renewable energy sources and reducing CO₂ emissions, reaffirming the City of Karlovac’s commitment to the green and digital transition.
