Throughout the event, the CoFarm4Cities project was presented at a dedicated stand, offering visitors insight into the project’s goals, educational materials, and examples of good practice. The presentation was complemented by the participation of 14 Ljubljana’s primary and secondary schools, which demonstrated how urban school gardens are integrated into everyday learning and community engagement.
Each day featured different schools and creative themes – from The Grain Path: From Field to Classroom and Herbs in the School Garden to Garden Through the Seasons and Spreads for Smart Minds. The students and mentors prepared engaging exhibitions and interactive workshops featuring garden produce, homemade jams, herbal teas, eco-crafts, didactic games, seed packets, and healthy snacks such as carrot cake, beetroot spreads, and herbal dips. These hands-on presentations illustrated how gardening can foster environmental responsibility, creativity, and teamwork among students.
The fair attracted a diverse audience – from families with young children and individuals passionate about sustainable living to seniors curious about the city’s green initiatives. Many visitors were pleasantly surprised to discover how active and well-developed the network of urban school gardens in Ljubljana is. Their enthusiastic feedback confirmed the educational and social value of school gardening as part of sustainable urban life.
By combining the presentation of the CoFarm4Cities project with the creativity of school garden exhibitions, DOVES – FEE Slovenia and the Eco-Schools Programme successfully showcased how urban agriculture connects learning, sustainability, and community. The participation at the Nature-Health Fair not only strengthened the project’s visibility but also inspired visitors to take part in building a greener, more resilient, and food-conscious city.
