🌿 Traugutta 8 in Łódź – courtyard unsealed and paving works completed
In Łódź, another key milestone has been reached in the revitalisation of the courtyard at Traugutta 8, implemented within the Re-public Spaces project (Interreg Central Europe). Paving works have been completed and the courtyard has been successfully unsealed, marking a major transformation of the site.
Before the intervention, the courtyard was entirely covered with impermeable concrete, offering no greenery and no capacity for rainwater retention. The current project reverses this condition by introducing permeable surfaces and preparing the space for green and blue infrastructure.
As part of the works:
- the sealed concrete surface has been removed,
- new permeable paving and pedestrian paths have been introduced,
- areas for vegetation and rainwater retention systems have been prepared.
This transformation follows the concept of a “water catcher courtyard”, aiming to improve microclimate conditions, reduce heat stress, and manage stormwater locally.
The project is now entering its final phase. In the coming weeks, planting and installation of street furniture will complete the transformation, turning the courtyard into a functional, climate-resilient, and community-friendly space.
Re-public Spaces, co-funded by the Interreg Central Europe programme, focuses on adapting urban courtyards to climate change by integrating green infrastructure and involving local communities in the design process.
