Transnational Train-the-Trainers Winter School Successfully Held in Osijek

Date: 14.10.2025

From 7 to 9 October 2025, a three-day transnational Train-the-Trainers Winter School took place at the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences in Osijek, Croatia. It brought together agricultural advisors from Slovenia, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Winter School was organised as part of the Carbon Farming CE project and focused on strengthening the competencies of agricultural advisory services in the field of carbon farming.

The programme combined lectures, practical work and field visits. Participants exchanged knowledge and experience on:

  • carbon farming methods and soil carbon sequestration,

  • developing business models and examples of good practice,

  • EU policies and regulatory frameworks,

  • models of cooperation and climate-smart advisory approaches.

A study visit was also organised, featuring bioenergy production sites, vineyards and examples of local agricultural innovation. On the final day, the group visited the Agricultural Institute Osijek and learned more about its long-standing work in plant breeding and sustainable agriculture.

The event provided space for constructive discussion on how carbon farming can be integrated into advisory services and existing support schemes. Each advisor outlined possible approaches for introducing these practices into their daily work.

We sincerely thank the Agricultural Institute Osijek for its hospitality and excellent organisation, which contributed significantly to the success of the event.

The Winter School represents an important step towards building a network of professionals committed to advancing climate-resilient agriculture in Central Europe.
