Langiewicza City Park by night - after

The end of November marked an important milestone in the implementation of the URBIO BAUHAUS project in Wrocław.

Date: 19.12.2025

💡The Wrocław project intervention, implemented by the Municipality of Wrocław, focuses on the issue of light pollution in urban green spaces. Its objective is to introduce solutions that support biodiversity through the application of new lighting systems that reconcile the needs of people and nature.🌳👥
As a result of the modernisation, both the correlated colour temperature and light intensity were reduced and adjusted to the actual hours of park use. The contrast between illuminated and non-illuminated zones was decreased, and the overall uniformity of spatial perception was improved. These changes aim to enhance users’ perceived sense of safety while simultaneously improving living conditions for park flora and fauna.🌒
The new lighting fixture settings were developed in cooperation with project partners, BIOCENTUM, the Municipal Greenery Authority, and stakeholders representing energy companies working for the Municipality of Wrocław. Following the implementation of the modernisation measures at the demonstrator site, UPWr has commenced a new round of environmental and social research in the area. The meeting was also attended by UPWr students carrying out master’s theses in the field of urban biodiversity conservation.
We would like to thank all participants for their cooperation and for joint actions at the interface of science and urban governance.
*BIOCENTUM node was established by the Municipality of Wrocław in cooperation with Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences and the Association of Polish Urban Planners – Wrocław division in October 2024. It was built upon the existing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) Hub in Wrocław, whose activities focus on promoting the potential of nature-based solutions.
