ZSI’s Expertise in Social Innovation
Founded as the oldest institution dedicated to social innovation, ZSI has developed extensive competencies in both theory and practice. Its expertise spans innovation processes in general but excels in social innovation in particular. The Centre emphasizes the role of innovation not just as a driver of economic growth, but as a tool for improving the quality of life and ensuring inclusivity across all sectors of society. By addressing systemic barriers to participation, ZSI ensures that innovation serves the needs of diverse populations, particularly those traditionally excluded from entrepreneurial opportunities.
Key Contributions: A Legacy of Innovation
ZSI’s influence extends far beyond research; it actively contributes to the creation of frameworks and resources that shape the future of social innovation globally. Among its key contributions is the European School of Social Innovation (ESSI), which nurtures the next generation of social innovators by providing a platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and collaborative problem-solving. ESSI’s educational initiatives include a Master’s program and online courses that are designed to equip learners with the necessary skills to develop sustainable social enterprises and foster inclusive entrepreneurship.
Another cornerstone of ZSI’s work is the Atlas of Social Innovation, a comprehensive resource that offers deep insights into global social innovation ecosystems. The Atlas serves as a scientific reference for policymakers, practitioners, and academics alike, helping them understand the role of social innovations in meeting global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and social exclusion.
