JETforCE has successfully completed the first transnational pilot of its Challenge Mapping Tool, marking an important milestone in the project’s efforts to support a more inclusive and participatory just energy transition across central Europe.
Implemented across all nine partner regions, this initial project pilot tested the web-based Challenge Mapping Tool with citizens, public authorities, energy agencies, businesses, researchers and civil society organisations. The tool was designed to help users identify local energy transition challenges, share perspectives and contribute to discussions that support more informed and inclusive decision-making.
Throughout the pilot, regional workshops and stakeholder engagement activities enabled participants to map challenges specific to their local contexts while identifying common issues shared across central Europe. The pilot demonstrated the value of digital participation in bringing together diverse stakeholders and creating a structured evidence base for future planning and policy development.
The testing also provided valuable feedback on the usability and functionality of the Challenge Mapping Tool, helping project partners refine the application to better meet the needs of both citizens and public authorities. The pilot confirmed that while regions face different transition contexts, many share common priorities, including increasing public awareness, strengthening stakeholder engagement, addressing energy poverty and supporting the uptake of renewable energy solutions.
The successful completion of the pilot laid the foundation for the next stages of the JETforCE project, including further testing of the tool and the development of practical recommendations for regions undergoing a just energy transition.
Today, the Challenge Mapping Tool remains one of JETforCE’s key project results, providing a practical resource for public authorities and regional stakeholders seeking to engage communities, identify local priorities and support evidence-based energy transition policies.
