🌲 Strengthening Forest Resilience: Re-ENFORCE Featured in Las Polski 🌲

We are pleased to share that the Re-ENFORCE projectTransnational Cooperation on Nature-Based Solutions for Restoring Damaged Forests of Central Europe — has been featured in Las Polski, a biweekly magazine distributed to all State Forest units, private forest owners, and institutions involved in forest ecosystem management and research.

The article discusses how increasingly frequent and severe natural disturbances — windstorms, fires, droughts, and pest outbreaks — are reshaping Europe’s forest ecosystems and the urgent need for collaborative, science-based restoration approaches.

The Re-ENFORCE project, funded by the Interreg Central Europe Programme, directly responds to these challenges by:

  • Developing transnational strategies for forest recovery after disturbances,

  • Testing Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) at six pilot sites across Central Europe,

  • Creating an online Decision Support System (DSS) to guide forest managers, planners, and policymakers,

  • Promoting international cooperation to harmonize legislation, terminology, and best practices for forest restoration.

In Poland, the Forest Research Institute (IBL) represents the country among nine project partners. Together with State Forests (Lasy Państwowe), IBL coordinates pilot restoration sites in Nadleśnictwo Myszyniec (post-fire recovery area, 2014) and Nadleśnictwa Przymuszewo, Runowo, and Rytel (post-windthrow recovery area, 2017). These sites are key for testing restoration models, regeneration methods, and resilient species compositions.

👉 The Las Polski feature underscores how Re-ENFORCE bridges research, practice, and policy, supporting sustainable forest recovery across Central Europe.
