The Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE project Rail4Regions has officially concluded after three years of intensive international cooperation. Together, the project partners developed innovative tools, strategies and practical solutions to improve regional rail freight transport and strengthen sustainable logistics connections in Central Europe. While the project results and publications will remain available online, no further news or event announcements will be published on this website in the future.
The Rail4Regions project has officially come to an end after three years of intensive transnational cooperation dedicated to strengthening regional rail freight transport in Central Europe. Implemented from February 2023 to January 2026 under the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme, the project brought together partners from eight countries to improve the accessibility, competitiveness and sustainability of regional rail infrastructure.
Together, the project partners developed and tested practical solutions supporting the revitalisation and better integration of regional rail infrastructure into European freight transport networks. The project focused particularly on industrial sidings, loading points, branch and feeder lines as well as single wagonload transport. Among the most important project results are the development of the RailHub Finder digital tool, the elaboration of action plans and strategic recommendations for regional authorities, and the publication of a transnational White Paper addressing the accessibility of rail freight transport in rural and peripheral regions.
A key achievement of the project was the creation of transferable planning instruments and methodologies supporting transport and spatial planners in strengthening environmentally friendly freight transport solutions. Through pilot activities, thematic working groups, stakeholder workshops and international exchange, Rail4Regions contributed to increasing awareness of the importance of regional rail infrastructure for climate-friendly logistics and regional development.
The partnership would like to sincerely thank all project partners, stakeholders, institutions and participants who contributed to the successful implementation of Rail4Regions and supported the exchange of knowledge and experience throughout the project duration.
Although the formal implementation phase has ended, the project results and publications will remain available on the project website for further use and reference. Please note, however, that no further news articles, event announcements or project updates will be published on this website from now on.
Further information about the project and its outputs remains available on the official project website.
