Date: 20.06.2025

The research team from CTU in Prague, a partner of the MedWaveImage project, has published a new paper in IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement titled: “An Inexpensive System for Measuring the Dielectric Properties of Biological Tissues Using an Open-Ended Coaxial Probe.”

The study investigates the use of low-cost, commercially available vector network analyzers (VNAs) for measuring the dielectric properties of biological tissues. These properties are essential for numerous medical applications involving electromagnetic fields, and the proposed system offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional high-quality equipment.

The research supports MedWaveImage’s goals of developing accessible, innovative microwave-based solutions for medical diagnostics.

The paper was authored by Zdenek Linha, Jan Vrba, Jakub Kollar, Ondrej Fiser, Tomas Pokorny, Marek Novak, Tomas Drizdal, David Vrba.
