JETforCE has successfully completed its second transnational pilot, demonstrating how the Technology Evaluation Tool developed within the project can support more transparent, participatory and evidence-based decision-making for the just energy transition across central Europe.
Building on the results of the first project pilot, which identified regional energy transition challenges, this second pilot phase enabled stakeholders to explore and evaluate potential technological solutions. The pilot introduced the JETforCE Technology Evaluation Tool, a digital application designed to assess technologies through a broad sustainability perspective, considering not only technical performance and economic feasibility, but also environmental, social and governance (ESG) impacts.
The pilot was implemented across all partner regions, engaging public authorities, energy experts, researchers, businesses and other regional stakeholders. Participants used the tool to evaluate technologies relevant to their local transition priorities, applying a common assessment framework while reflecting the specific needs and conditions of their regions.
The collaborative evaluation process encouraged dialogue between different stakeholder groups and demonstrated how structured technology assessments can support informed decision-making. By combining technical evidence with stakeholder perspectives, the pilot helped identify solutions that are not only effective, but also socially acceptable, environmentally responsible and aligned with regional development objectives.
The pilot also provided valuable feedback on the functionality and usability of the Technology Evaluation Tool, allowing project partners to refine the application and strengthen its practical value for future users. The experience confirmed that a shared evaluation methodology can support regions in comparing technology options more consistently while maintaining flexibility to address local priorities.
The successful completion of the second transnational pilot represents another key milestone of the JETforCE project. Together with the Challenge Mapping Tool developed through Pilot 1, the Technology Evaluation Tool provides public authorities and regional stakeholders with practical digital resources that support collaborative planning and evidence-based decisions for a fair and sustainable energy transition.
Both tools remain available as part of the JETforCE project legacy, helping regions across central Europe continue to engage stakeholders and evaluate transition pathways beyond the project’s lifetime.
