Last week, the PoLaRecCE Project took us on a three-day, multi-country journey exploring cutting-edge strategies for restoring degraded agricultural soils.
📅 June 25 – Arnoldstein, Austria.
Our visit to the experimental remediation site offered a deep dive into soil recovery through immobilization of trace elements. We observed how naturally occurring heavy metal accumulator plants contribute to environmental remediation via phytostabilization. 🌿
📊 June 26 – Castenaso, Italy.
At the Sala del Consiglio, we presented insights from deliverables D.1.2.1 and D.1.3.1, addressing core soil degradation risks in Central Europe. The spotlight was on non-food agriculture as a viable solution for regenerating contaminated land. 🌱 In the afternoon, we visited the Castenaso Demonstration Site, where theory met practice during an immersive field session.
👣 June 27 – Bologna, Italy
Our final day brought us to UNIBO’s Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences for a dynamic Project Communication activity and discussions on the path forward. 🚀 Next steps: advancing Work Package with a strong focus on scalable, region-specific solutions.
👏 Huge thanks to our fantastic hosts from BOKU, Castenaso Municipality, and UNIBO for their warm welcome and excellent organization!
